Boasting a bigger dose of waspish humour than its predecessor, this is pleasing, exciting and amusing entertainment. The three animals from the 1993 film (and, before that, the 1963 original) are once again separated from their owners and undertake a long trek home in the face of numerous obstacles and dangers. Inspired voice casting - which matches the animals with the human spokespersons - adds a good deal to the enjoyment as the two dogs and a cat battle dognappers and a couple of roughhouse pooches, while bandying words with each other at the same time. Michael J Fox, Ralph Waite and Sally Field again voice the dogs and cat in this streetsmart movie that, while undemanding fare, is more entertaining than Babe: Pig in the City.
