A wedding takes place, but it's not all plain sailing as the bride's divorced parents have a massive row. Mum is an actress who locks daughter Paula Marshall in a hotel room with a paparazzo as she doesn't approve of the girl's groom; daughter at one point swallows her engagement ring. Bette Midler and Dennis Farina are hilariously mean to each other as the warring parents even while a spark still ignites between them, there are some great one-liners and there's a good role for a sarcastic David Rasche as a therapist and Midler's second husband. A comedy of errors - though one of them is the way this all lacks any vim. As a whole it doesn't hold together. ( JG)
