Claire Danes plays a shy teenage bookworm, a fish out of water in her posh school. She does catch the eye, however, of golden boy Jude Law - but will her moods wreck her chances? As Claire is Jewish she suffers on a smaller scale the indignities that her grandmother (Jeanne Moreau) endured during the War, a comparison that robs this coming-of-age story of some credibility. The acting on the whole is fine.
