Ladies and gentlemen, pray extend a warm welcome to Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer, together for the first time, as a well-off, middle-aged couple who find their marriage is dying hard with a vengeance when they get the 15-year itch. Can the union survive? Will their kids burst into tears in all their scenes? Will Pfeiffer blow her ice-cool? Is Willis going to wear a T-shirt and silly wig? Good to see Brucie getting in touch with his sensitive side, and Pfeiffer kicks up an internal storm of rage, damage and insult, though the result is a bit like watching your parents row - painful and heartrending. The acting alone would carry it, but this is an exceptionally well crafted, credibly-written film that deserves respect. Director Rob Reiner gives himself a jolly support role as the couple's friend. And why not?
