Long, who played dedicated sci-fi fan Brandon Wheeger, was in good company - Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman and Tim Allen.

Roles followed in TV series Ed and run-of-the-mill college caper Happy Campers before hitting paydirt as Darry in cult horror movie Jeepers Creepers.

Following his brush with terror, he appeared in Britney Spears vehicle Crossroads and has the lead part opposite Wendie Malick in Bathroom Boy.

According to movie sources, he also has an uncredited part in the sequel Jeepers Creepers 2.
