One of the last films to date to be directed by Roger Corman (who made the 'Edgar Allan Poe' horror films of the Sixties), this is a kind of second-cousin to Bonnie and Clyde, except that there are no redeeming features about the appalling Ma Barker (Shelley Winters) and her brood of homicidal sons, which includes Robert De Niro in one of his earliest roles. A violent, unpleasant story that captures the right primitive backwoods feel.
