The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
After spending twenty years languishing in the in-trays of some of Hollywood's finest, Douglas Adams' cult classic finally makes it to the big screen courtesy of debut British director Garth Jennings. Purists may carp, but the tale of Arthur Dent's sci-fi search for the meaning of life, the universe and everything is pretty much a job well done. The satirical thrust of the story stays true to Adams' spirit - a wry dig at man's omnipotent stupidity and this wallows in the chance to stick the knife in.
It was a fairly good movie, funny in most parts. However it did lack the genius you find in other sci-fi/comedy movies. I am glad though that the role wasn't handed to Hugh Grant- because I think he would have messed it up.

I really enjoyed this film even though I'd never heard the radio series (but I did read the book). Martin Freeman is excellent as Arthur Dent despite the fact that Douglas Adams wanted Hugh Grant for the role.
Ketan Patel
Kormatastic, this film was. I'm glad Hugh Grant didn't get the place because he would probably ask his love for a shag as soon as he meets her. Freeman is the right BOY. I hope there is a Bollywoodhikers guide to the galaxy. Bollyrilliant!

Boring, insipid, and pointless. How could Douglas Adams be an executive director as he died in 2001? Vogons as bounty hunters? I also fell asleep. One of the few films where I wanted my money back.
Paul Phillips
As a fan of the radio show, reader of the book and then watcher of the TV version, this was an empty production. Nice special effects but I thought Arthur was dull, insufficiently naive and Zahod irritating and the two heads unfunny: in the TV version the papier mache attachment was at least so unreal it fitted the satire. Oh, and I fell asleep twice in it I was so bored.
