Brando Movie Axed In Row
Reclusive Godfather star threatens legal action over documentaryThe world premiere of a film documentary about Marlon Brando has been called off after the actor threatened to sue its British director.
Tony Kaye has withdrawn his movie - made after hundreds of hours "larking about" with the 78-year-old Godfather star - from the Raindance Film Festival in London at the end of October.
Even the row in which they irretrievably fell out - said to be a surreal sequence with Brando in drag at an acting workshop - is covered in the film.
When the reclusive Brando, who owns 51 per cent of the footage, heard about the premiere he ordered his lawyers to threaten legal action.
Kaye, director of American History X, told the Daily Telegraph he pulled the film to try to make amends.
"I like to think that he's annoyed with me but not really annoyed with me," he said.
"That's not to say that I'm not annoyed with him. Working with him was impossible."
Reconciliation would seem impossible, however, as Kaye has used a series of answering machine messages - in which Brando threatens, "If you ever break our pact you are lost to me forever" - to record a dance track with the actor on vocals.
