It's remarkable that all of Andrew V McLaglen's best Westerns have been made with James Stewart as star.
Stewart's integrity, plus a gritty performance from Dean Martin and striking colour photography, go a long way to making Bandolero! above average as a fiery adventure yarn.
All the action is well staged, especially the opening rescue of Martin and his gang from the hangman (a bouquet to Guy Raymond, whose character believes that there is 'nothing worse than a sloppy hanging') and film fans will recognise Jock Mahoney, once the Range Rider and Tarzan, as a rancher who gets killed off in the first reel.
