This excellent Western has top-grade written all over it. Again uniting star James Stewart with director Anthony Mann, it features stunning Western vistas, fierce fist fights, impressively busy crowd scenes, sparkling Technicolor photography and a show-stealing performance by Arthur Kennedy, as the good-bad guy who must be bested in the end. And it provided almost the final step up the ladder to stardom for Rock Hudson, here as a gambler. Chisel-jawed Julia Adams gives a spirited performance as the girl.
