A stolen idea, too, as six years previously this story of twin sisters falling for the same fellow, with the nasty one initially getting him, had been filmed in Britain with Elisabeth Bergner playing the two sisters. Admittedly, this version, with Bette Davis as the two sisters, is better. Glenn Ford is the chap they both fall for and there's solid support from Walter Brennan, Dane Clark and Charles Ruggles. Bette, obviously, dominates the film with two fine and distinct characterisations. It's pure melodrama and was deservedly popular in its day. A double (or even triple) success for Bette, as she was also the film's producer.
