This fast-moving comedy marked a nice change of pace from Bette Davis following a long period of heavy romantic drama. She's a magazine editor forced to work with an ex-boyfriend (Robert Montgomery), leading to all sorts of problems. The actors snap out the dialogue with some panache and it's a tribute to the strength of writing that the film hardly seems dated today, with its witty asides on feminism and chauvinism. Look out for a 16-year-old Debbie Reynolds, in her screen debut, as one of co-star Betty Lynn's friends.
