This farrago is supposed to be a comedy, but suffers from a profound lack of laughs. Plot in a nutshell: wealthy Beverly Hills kid (Peter Billingsley) has everything except parental attention and love. When he catches an incompetant burglar (Burt Young), he cooks up a plan to have himself `kidnapped'. Dire and so cliché-ridden you can't believe Young and Martin Sheen (as the brat's dad) read the script. Variety summed it up neatly: 'If you've ever wondered why there are so many aspiring film-makers in Los Angeles, one need only look at Beverly Hills Brats - the kind of film that makes viewers say, Heck, I could do better than that. And they'd be right.' At least the makers got a few celebrities old and new, including Whoopi Goldberg and Ruby Keeler, to make guest appearances.
