Those masters of comedy, Cary Grant and Tony Curtis - Curtis always preferred playing comedy and Grant was his hero in the field - make the most of their material in this World War Two navy lark about the operation mounted to rescue a sunken American submarine.
Grant is the sub's commander who experiences a certain amount of confusion at the unconventional methods used by his first officer (Curtis), involving lots of lovely ladies whose lingerie is put to some unusual uses.
Although the humour remains pretty obvious and the script could have been snappier, Blake Edwards directs with pace and the whole is a happy and at times hilarious vehicle for its stars' talents.
