Despite a longish film career, big, bluff, bearded Monty Woolley scored his greatest success in this, his first major starring role, in which he repeated his pain-in-the-neck lecturer character from the equally funny stage play of the same title. The hilarious screenplay is by the talented Epstein brothers, Philip and Julius, who won an Oscar the following year for a very different kind of script: `Casablanca'. Beaky Mary Wickes made a notable comic debut as Woolley's nurse, and Bette Davis' role was especially expanded in accordance with her star status. To find out how four penguins and an octopus get into the plot, you'll just have to watch this priceless piece of fun.
