Yet another telling of the Billy the Kid legend which makes him handsome (in the shape of Val Kilmer) and misunderstood. The real Billy was ugly, nasty and prefered shooting people in the back. Novelist Gore Vidal wrote the script, too, but that doesn't make this a great film. Vidal must have a thing about the Kid, because he also scripted the much better The Left-Handed Gun, starring handsome, misunderstood Paul Newman. Emilio Estevez offered a superior portrayal in Young Guns and Michael J Pollard certainly looked the part in the otherwise disappointing Dirty Little Billy. This is by no means a bad film, but completely unmemorable.
