In this romantic thriller-cum-road movie, Sharon Gless plays completely against her sassy Christine Cagney character from TV's hit series Cagney & Lacey, to become Joyce, a naive, bored young woman in a small Louisiana town who drifts into a prisoner support group at the local jail and falls for Jesse (Scott Glenn), a vicious character who's in for attempted murder. Apparently based on a real-life case, this well-written TV movie is tightly woven and moves along at a brisk pace so that before she knows where she is, Joyce is helping Jesse and two other inmates with a daring break-out. From then on they are on the road and on their own, Bonnie and Clyde-style. The end may be inevitable but there are plenty of devil-may-care escapades en route. Even if the story doesn't get right inside its characters, there are some wry observations and the acting is first-class.
