Quite a jolly if inconsequential vehicle for Eddie Murphy as a con-man elected to Congress where he finds himself, natch, perfectly at home.
Lane Smith's impersonation of Richard Nixon (his character name actually is Dick, and much is made of it) is equally in its natural setting here as the big white self-serving shark on whose major committee Murphy soon contrives to get - with the intention of pocketing as many back-handers as possible in the shortest time.
Alas, it's not long before a pretty face (Victoria Rowell) and a good cause (cancer in children caused by a local power station) steady Eddie, and he rounds on the rogues responsible (headed by Smith) with a 'sting' in the tail of the film.
The ending really sums up the enterprise: at the final wisecrack, Rowell reacts while Murphy just mugs to the camera.
