World War Two's answer to Top Gun sees Pat O'Brien and Randolph Scott as two air force officers at a bombardier training school, each with differing theories on air attacks. Enter Anne Shirley as the girl they both covet and you're set for a cracking, if predictable, Hollywood war movie which details some fascinating training procedures but oddly fails to take to the skies until the last reel, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. A blatant propaganda piece, this was immensely popular on its release but filming started before the actual Pearl Harbor raid and it had to be revised several times after America's entry into the war. When it finally appeared, O'Brien's men had a real enemy to bomb. Look out for a young Robert Ryan in an early role.
