Eleanor Parker was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of tragic Australian soprano Marjorie Lawrence in this well-made and affecting biopic. Lawrence was struck down by polio at the height of her career and this is the story of her rehabilitation at the hands of Dr Thomas King (Glenn Ford), who marries her, and her triumphant return to the New York Metropolitan Opera House. This film is pure melodrama and there's nothing wrong with that. It also has enough fine singing to keep opera fans happy. The singing voice, though, isn't Parker's - it belongs to opera star Eileen Farrell.
