What a difference a decent screenplay makes. The storyline to this foul-mouthed romantic comedy is pretty original and the settings delightfully gaudy. But the script is just so bad that the film never has a chance. Directorial mishandling doesn't help, while even the delectable Rosanna Arquette, as the cocktail waitress planning to be a female Houdini, comes across as irritating in this one. It does get a bit better towards the end: a case of too little, too late.
