Orphaned city boy Nick (Christian Campbell) must risk his life to save his loved ones and the forests he's guarding in his new job in the American Northwest, in this heartwarming environmental drama set in the early 1900s and based on Gene Stratton Porter's novel Freckles. A simple script, uncomplicated acting and straightforward handling make this yarn clean, wholesome and uncontroversial. Barbra Streisand's husband James Brolin gets top billing as the boy's boss, Tom McLean, but he gives a wooden performance in an unrewarding part.
