Solid, worthy follow-up to 'Young Tom Edison', which had proved such a hit for Mickey Rooney earlier the same year. Spencer Tracy's sincerity and intensity is ideal as the adult Edison, and Rita Johnson, an actress who seldom got the breaks she deserved, enjoys her finest film hour as his wife - even though a temptation to alter the facts to suit the drama isn't always resisted.
