Superb dark thriller which made Otto Preminger's name as a director. It also clinched a sensational comeback for silent-screen actor Clifton Webb as the caustic radio star in love with the mysterious, murdered Laura (Gene Tierney), and deservedly won an Academy Award for cameraman Joseph La Shelle, whose moody, ominously shadowed photography (together with the haunting theme music) dominates the film. A seminal film noir.
