There are a few chuckles in this expensive-looking comedy, written and directed by, as well as starring Marty Feldman as Digby Geste, twin brother of Michael York's Beau! Most of the best laughs come towards the beginning, many of them supplied by Spike Milligan as the Gestes' ancient retainer, a performance that may owe something to a study of that remarkable old actor Wilfrid Lawson's butler Peacock, in The Wrong Box. A confrontation between Feldman and a mirage of Gary Cooper from the 1940 film almost comes off, Cooper providing an oasis of class in this comic desert.
