The second half of this story of the Japanese devastation of Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the consequent American fightback. This contains the best bit, with the Americans showing off the actionful war film at which they excel - although it's difficult to follow what's going on and there's the usual problem of telling who is firing at whom in the battles. And the plot follows a predictable course: everyone you think will be killed off bites the dust sooner or later. In a lengthy cast, John Wayne gives one of his best performances as an admiral with the unfortunate name of Rock. Other particularly thoughtful portrayals come from Dana Andrews, Paula Prentiss and Burgess Meredith. Photography and dialogue both suffer from a surprising lack of clarity; on the whole, though, the odds are you'll like it.
