A sometimes tough detective thriller let down by wishy-washy performances by William Holden and Alexis Smith in the romantic leads. Edmond O'Brien is in hard-hitting form as a crusading lawyer and the film's action could do with more of him. Gritty supporting cast includes Ed Begley, Tom Tully and Neville Brand.
