Director Ken Russell and actor/producer Richard Dreyfuss got together to make this re-examination of the famous Dreyfus affair which shook the French justice process to its roots at the turn of the century. Dreyfuss himself is terrific as Colonel Picquart, the little aristocrat who, at first doubting then defiant, becomes involved in defending Dreyfus, the Jewish army officer wrongly accused of espionage and treason. Full of typical Russell touches, some helpful some not, the cable TV movie has a fascinating script by Ron Hutchinson which makes you want to know even more about this whole infamous episode in French legal history.
