This light-hearted but lightweight whodunit at least has a big star holding it all together. Bette Davis plays a retired judge who sets up a detective agency manned, using the old poacher-turned-gamkeeper philosophy, by ex-cons, chief among whom is Doug McClure. A neat idea that should have worked but doesn't fire on all cylinders thanks to a pretty thin plot. Still, it's an undemanding time-passer and watching a grouchy and sharp-tongued Davis ordering everyone about compensates to some degree. She may be below her best but she's still pretty good.
