One of Hollywood's earliest tilts at the Nazis looks simplistic now, despite sincere portrayals from Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart. There's no doubting its sincerity, however, and those who know Frank Morgan only as a portrayer of dithering bumblers may be surprised by his excellent portrayal of Professor Roth here. A very young Robert Stack turns up as an ardent supporter of the Third Reich.
