Another Alfred Hitchcock-David O Selznick production to follow Rebecca and Spellbound. Riveting stuff it is, too, underrated in its time, when everything Hitchcock made was being judged by impossibly high standards. Valli is cast in the role of a beautiful adventuress, Maddalena Paradine, who is accused of the murder of her wealthy husband. Gregory Peck plays the lawyer who defends her and falls under her hypnotic spell.
