Seventh Heaven

Romantic melodrama starring Simone Simon and James Stewart. In a Paris slum, a sewer worker and a street walker find love, only to be separated by World War One.

This wartime romance is a tearstrewn remake of the 1927 classic, with James Stewart and Simone Simon in the roles created by Charles Farrell and Janet Gaynor. This time, however, acting honours are secured by screen schemer Gale Sondergaard as the cruelly dominant Nana. She was unlucky not to be nominated for an Oscar, the year after she actually won the award, for her performance in Anthony Adverse.
