A bread-and-butter film for the legendary Bette Davis, who plays a former movie stunt pilot now reduced to giving flying lessons between serving a mean bowl of chilli in the airport cafe. But the central role, of a wheelchair-bound girl who dreams of flying high above the harsh world, is played with sensitivity by paraplegic actress Suzy Gilstrap. It was directed with confidence by former child actor Ron Howard (later a teenage success in TV's Happy Days) - who has since scored major cinema hits with Splash and Cocoon.
