Romantic comedy-drama about the lives and loves of the colourful staff and guests at a posh San Francisco hotel. Based on the best-selling novel by Arthur Hailey.

This was the pilot for the eagerly awaited TV series inspired by the 1967 film of the same name that in turn was based on Arthur Hailey's best-selling novel. The owner of the hotel, then played by Melvyn Douglas, is now a woman - Bette Davis, no less. By an amazing quirk of fate, Miss Davis took ill and never made to the weekly series, being replaced by Anne Baxter. Miss Baxter, of course, played the character who understudies Miss Davis in the classic study of theatre bitchery All About Eve, taking over her role and life by the final reel.
