Uncomfortably carrying distant echoes of the infinitely superior Deliverance, this rugged outdoor adventure yarn battles gamely against the central miscasting of Catherine Bach as an investigative photo-journalist. Sporting inappropriate four-inch high-heels, she looks distinctly unhappy as she clambers around the landscape in the company of beefy kayaker James Brolin, himself a touch bemused by the lameness of much of Jim Kouf's dialogue. Still, director Reza Badiyi keeps the action flowing, particularly when events switch from land to water and the stunt canoeists take over for the thrilling chase sequences. One of the highpoints, in fact, comes in a pre-credit scene, when Brolin launches his kayak down a mountain slope and falls, Butch Cassidy-style, into a swelling river.
