This was one of the earlier musical vehicles that Warner Brothers assembled for Doris Day in the days when she had just become their brightest new singing star. The story's not much, but who cares when Doris sings such standards as Somebody Loves Me, Lullaby of Broadway and You're Getting to be a Habit with Me? Veteran star Gladys George goes slightly over the top as Doris's mother, once a Broadway star but now singing in clubs. There are times when the film seems curiously lifeless - its comedy scenes aren't too funny - but the real revelation here is Day's dancing, gliding with almost the elegance of a Ginger Rogers and matching the leggy Gene Nelson step for step.
