This rarely-seen Alfred Hitchcock suspense thriller was adapted from Josephine Tey's novel A Shilling for Candles. It was made at the newly opened Pinewood Studios, which had stages big enough to allow Hitch to indulge in some spectacular crane shots in a story of two young people on the run trying to clear the man of murder, as in The 39 Steps. Hitchcock himself makes his usual cameo appearance. Watch out for him in the crowd outside a courthouse. A scene in which fugitives try to get away from a party is priceless.
