Vigorous, he-man Cavalry western, forcefully directed by the redoubtable John Sturges, who also made 'The Magnificent Seven'. Here, he used MGM's new colour, Ansco Color, for the first time, achieving some striking visual effects. Slow-moving at the start, the story works up to a tense climax when the principal characters are trapped by Indians. Good acting all round from a cast headed by William Holden and John Forsythe.
