A superior Western with a famous theme song, and James Stewart going through hell and high water to track down the man who sold Indians rifles that led to the death of Stewart's brother. There are two excellent performances from old-stagers Donald Crisp and Aline MacMahon, but delicate Cathy O'Donnell seems a little lost among the film's many fights. Arthur Kennedy is as penetrating as ever, Jack Elam scores in a small but sinister role, and colour, music and action all hit the mark well in this tautly-strung outdoor whodunit.
