An old-fashioned story of love blooming in middle-age, set against a background of pop music and student riots. Michael Redgrave is quite touching as the unwanted and unemployed school-teacher who rents a room next to Bette Davis, as a seedy cellist. Somewhat under-rated in its time, the film has an interesting supporting cast, which includes Alexis Kanner, French actress Olga Georges-Picot, British veterans Leo Genn and Kay Walsh, and American singing star Richard Wyler (formerly known as Richard Stapley) in a rare straight acting role.
