This is a pleasingly idiotic, mildly funny comedy-thriller about the attempts of an inept group of assassins back in 1906 to murder their own boss. Diana Rigg, in her first big cinema role, plays a militant feminist reporter out to scoop the world. That brilliant writer Wolf Mankowitz added some biting dialogue to the original screenplay which was written by the film's producer, Michael Relph. Basically it is a welcome attempt to hark back to the Ealing style of somewhat sly comedy, and certainly Oliver Reed's insidiously witty performance in the lead suggests that you shouldn't believe a word of it.
