This British thriller is a bit of a slow cooker, but once the pace hots up, it bubbles along at a fair crack and boils up to an exciting climax. Trevor Howard is an archaeologist in North Africa who gets involved in breaking a gun-running gang after the brother of his girlfriend (Anouk) gets killed. The sometimes pedestrian direction is in the usually accomplished hands of Ronald Neame, with second-unit photography breathtakingly done by future Hammer king Freddie Francis.
