The disaster movie reaches new heights of lunacy (despite a script penned by Oscar-winners Carl Foreman and Stirling Silliphant) in this old pals' reunion from The Towering Inferno, as producer Irwin Allen and stars Paul Newman and William Holden from that film face fresh catastrophe. Here, it's a crisis time on that volcanic island again - a new towering inferno indeed that produces the biggest bang since Krakatoa exploded east of Java. There's plenty of glamour in the picture among those fleeing the molten lava are sultry Jacqueline Bisset, Veronica (Hill Street Blues) Hamel, and exotic Barbara Carrera.
