Big-scale depiction of the Mormons' epic trek from Illinois to their new home state, Utah. Dean Jagger is forthright in the title role, but has to concede top billing to the romantic leads, Tyrone Power and Linda Darnell. They don't however, match his fire in a performance that revitalised his own career but couldn't, alas, make this stirring film a box-office success. The supporting cast is very stronbg and includes Brian Donlevy, Mary Astor, John Carradine and Vincent Price.
