You won't notice it, but the heroine in this film is played by two women - Vivien Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor. The latter took over after Vivien Leigh fell ill. Close-ups of Miss Taylor were then cut into the film already shot, leaving Miss Leigh, unrecognisable, in the long shots. Action fans will enjoy the climax, when a herd of thirsty elephants bulldoze their way through the old plantation house. An outbreak of cholera, a monsoon and an extraordinary game of bicycle polo (plus, of course, Miss Taylor) are among the film's extra added attractions. And there is some fine Sri Lankan scenery.
