A rattling good World War Two film on an unusual theme: the blowing-up of Nazi battleships by a highly-trained group of men in cockleshell canoes. It was one of the first British war films to be made in Technicolor, and the photography is first-rate, as are the performances of Jose Ferrer (who also directed), Trevor Howard and then-newcomer Percy Herbert. The training of the men is even more entertaining than the raid itself.
