Never mind the complex plot, which crams incident upon incident into the short running time. What makes this thriller a real treat is William Dieterle's frenetically fast direction which employs just about every trick in the cinematic book - dissolves, wipes and fades and the kind of editing that makes Richard Lester look like a sleepwalker. If there had been an Oscar for sheer speed, Dieterle would have won, hands down.
