Running Mates

Political comedy starring Tom Selleck, Laura Linney and Nancy Travis. A former skirt-chasing politician launches a campaign to get himself nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate.

TV's former detective Magnum and sometime Friends guest star Tom Selleck plays an ambitious politician who is chasing his party's nomination for the American presidency, and the various hi-jinks he experiences on hitting the campaign trail are the basis of this so-so comedy-drama. Laura Linney plays his campaign manager - with whom he also has an affair, while Nancy Travis is his long-suffering wife, Jenny. It's alright as a light-hearted take on US politics, but you'd be better off with 1992's Bob Roberts or TV's The West Wing.
