Sky Movies Indie In July
Don't resort to another teen movie or predictable action-thriller...Go for something more original and creative...please!On Sky Movies Indie we have just the thing. From vintage to contemporary, choose from a rich selection of beautifully crafted films - you'll be spoilt for an alternative choice this July!
Our most exciting new title this month is Hollywood Bombs and Blockbusters - an HBO documentary about the biggest hits and sorest losers of Hollywood.
Featuring a fabulous cast of George Clooney, Morgan Freeman, Sydney Pollack and Steven Spielberg, amongst others, it's really a series of talking heads and movie clips - but brilliantly put together and surprisingly revealing.
A memorable moment sees George Clooney taking responsibility for Batman and Robin. Joel Schumacher famously said to Woody Allen about that turkey, "I've made the worst film in history" to which Woody replied, "That would have been an achievement. You just made a mediocre movie."
Watch Hollywood in an unusually self-deprecating mode on Sky Movies Indie this July!
The Movie Makers Part 2 - The Actresses!
We get excited about big-shot directors, we delight in beautiful costumes, but frankly all that really matters is that winning smile, those seductive eyes and that killer body - it's the leading lady that makes a movie what it is - and brings the box office profits rolling in!
In 1907, Florence Lawrence was the first actress whose name was used to promote her films and the studio (Independent Moving Pictures Company) for which she worked. Until then, actors and actresses worked anonymously, primarily because movie execs didn't want their players to become famous and start demanding higher salaries.
But in the last 100 years, the star has become the name of the game! Nothing sells a movie better than a fabulous, glamorous and high-profile leading lady!
From the exquisite Catherine Deneuve to the divine Nicole Kidman, women have been a powerful force in Hollywood since the dawn of the cinematic experience.
Don't miss this season highlighting the best of female acting talent at 9pm every night from Monday 9th to Sunday 15th July, on Sky Movies Indie!
