Michael Mckean

The Saturday Night Live star (the oldest actor to appear on the show) is best known as rhythm guitarist David St Hubbins in the spoof rock group Spinal Tap.

He began his career in the comedy group Credibility Gap with future Spinal Tap member Harry Shearer vand David L Lander.

The three became writers on American TV's Laverne & Shirley and McKean and Lander gained fame as greaser duo Lenny and Squiggy.

McKean appeared with Lander in 1980's Used Cars and then starred played it straight-in the soap opera Young Doctors in Love.

Rob Reiner's This Is Spinal Tap saw him co-write, compose the music and star in the overblown rockumentary and led to roles in a number of films.

These include D.A.R.Y.L, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Earth Girls Are Easy, Flashback, Coneheads and The Brady Bunch Movie.

McKean also co-wrote and acted in the 1989 Hollywood satire The Big Picture, directed by fellow Tap member Christopher Guest.

Subsequent big screen roles have included True Crime, Teaching Mrs Tingle and Best in Show, a dog contest spoof documentary from director Guest.

He went on to take supporting roles in Never Again, Slap Her�She's French, The Guru alongside Jim Mistri and Auto Focus.

Recent work has included reteaming with Guest for the enjoyable A Mighty Wind, a spoof that does for American folk what Spinal Tap did for rock.
